This is a series of photographs that I took last weekend as I walked from Roebling St in Williamsburg to the Morgan Avenue subway stop in Bushwick.

Made a groovy little walking stick / wading staff out of Black Locust that my visiting Aunt really liked so it is hers now :) Most of the creations from the last few months plus some older works in progress (I need to take a break from carving and pick up the paintbrushes again soon). Also some collaborations with my heartner Jenn rocking the mandalic geometries :) Building out a couple of gates recently. This stained and oiled one is going to be a mix of pallet wood like the other but with some live edge black locust thrown in :) Amaranth (Purpleheart) Tibetan Knot, knife carved resting in a lil' Black Locust bean scoop bowl. I love the contrast between these woods! Thank you @myrkrfellforge for the Purpleheart it is a beast to carve but well worth it. Now I've got to find a nice Sterling chain for the Knot. Siberian Elm! Brought to New Mexico by Governor Clyde Tingley during the Dust Bowl to provide shade and now classified by the USDA as a class C noxious weed, these trees get a lot of smack talked about them! I myself have done a lot of that smack talking as even a small tree can take a couple of hours to dig up. But hey look on the bright side - the spring seed pods are super yummy and it is quickly becoming a favorite wood of mine to carve. Apricot! Here's most of the spoons I carved from a single log recently. The work goes in stages following the stages of drying until finally after burnishing they are ready for oiling and curing. Here in a couple days they will be ready for use. I'm getting a lot better at axe shaping, and throwing in some chip carved designs is taking the spoons to other levels. Roughing out a new cooking spoon in apricot with the axe today. This will be just the fifth kitchen utensil I've made using only the axe and knife and a handsaw for check cuts. It has been humbling and great to connect with such an old tradition thousands of years old. Woodgrain gemstone explorations in Locust and Cedar. Follow my arts only Instagram @lovetreepro and find these on my Etsy store potentially eventually :) Little Pecan bird. Not sure what to do with this one - maybe it will just be a necklace or maybe a part of a mobile or just hang from a string solo. Working on smaller pieces like this has been a lot of fun although after a while my hands feel like they are caving in on themselves. Luckily it's warming up a bit to work on some bigger stuff outdoors :)
