WOOD CARVINGS

I started wood carving in 2020 when I was helping a neighbor unload some firewood and picked up a piece of purple heart Eastern Red Cedar. I thought “hey let me try and make a spoon with that” and that started my journey into whittling and carving wood. Since then I’ve worked a bit with the two most common trees here in northern New Mexico, Rocky Mountain Juniper and Pinon Pine, as well as the fruit woods of old trees like Apple, Cherry and my favorite, Apricot. I still work love to make pieces with Cedar which we can find here readily in the form of old latillas (fence posts) sourced usually from Texas.
